A Welcome To The Barracks District

Welcome traveller. I am Alphatonia, Captain of the Guard and leader of the Town Watch here in Grindletown. My duties here are quite broad. However my main task is to train the local milita and the resident soliders until they are a well trained fighting team, capable of diffusing any problems.

Grindletown is a relatively peaceful spot located high in the Galena Mountains. But we do have our fare share of trouble. The mountains do provide the town with some protection from a lot of the monsters reputed to inhabit the Northern most lands of Faerum. However, to combat the perils that do occur, Mayor Grindle has provided the town with an efficient but currently small law keeping and defensive force know as 'The Watch' or the 'Town Guard'.

The Town Watch

The Town Watch started out as a small band of mercenaries paid by Grindle to keep his town safe while he developed it and watched it grow. As the town became larger and the number of townspeople and visitors grew, the need for more military and legal personel increased. Thus Grindle enticed the best weapon masters of the land to setup operation in his town. Thus the Barracks District developed extremly efficient and well trained law enforcement personel. The Barracks district thus became home to a number of weapon masters, mercenaries and even a small milita band, who stayed and decided to call Grindletown home.

Here at the barracks the soldiers and mercenaries work together to maintain peace within the city. Of note the following mercenaries have become renowned throughout the land for their fighting prowess. Margarn, Gareth, Naidare and Saccross. This fighting band, who have become known as the Fighting Four, have established a remarkable reputation as an unbeatable quarry. This reputation has served the town well, as it has resulted in many undersirable characters moving elsewhere to ply their thieving and murderous trade. They are all masters in their own fighting styles and provide tutoring if and when they have the time.

The Barracks also provides the opportunity for its charges and those willing to pay a small administration fee to learn new proficiences and skills. In addition adventurers may study with the before mentioned masters, in many disciplines from the long sword to the battle axe. If we don't have a teacher available in your fighting discipline, we will endeavour to locate someone who can train you in the art that you desire to be taught.

The Protectors

However this is not the only protective force available to Grindletown. Recently, Mayor Grindle also introduced the Town Watch to an unusual looking band led by a small 5' tall elf by the name of Isysis. Isysis introduced his charges as the 'Protectors of Grindletown', a band of adventurers who have been encouraged to stay here and lend a hand to the local Barracks district. The Protectors led by a fierce fellow going by the name of Risen Battlecloak, seem to be a decent band and have actually saved this very town from possible destruction on several occassions. Thus they have earned a deep respect from me.

On the other hand this NEW 2nd group of Protectors we were introduced to a few months later are a really strange bunch. They are nothing like the 1st bunch we were introduced to! Always keeping to themselves, always keeping their cloaks pulled tightly closed around them. Its as if they don't want us to get to friendly with them or...too close! What secrets are being kept from us...I'm not sure. They are even rumoured to have weird powers. No one seems to know who or...in that regard what they are. Except Isysis I guess. Though, even Isysis himself is a strange one, rarely speaking, avoiding contact with anyone but his group. However, he is rumoured to be a close personal friend of the Mayor and as we all know around here...a friend of Grindle's is a friend indeed! Anyway, no mater how weird he or his new bunch are, as long as they help to protect Grindletown and its inhabitants from our enemies, then I don't really care who or what they are. If you would like to know more about our Original or the new Protectors please visit our local Library.

Local Weapon Masters of Grindletown

Below I will give you a quick run down on the 4 main weapon masters of Grindletown, Margarn, Gareth, Naidare and Saccross. I will provide a very brief introduction to each master. If you require more in depth information feel free to view some of the tomes in the local Library which provide more in depth information on each of the Fighting Four.

Master Margarn

The most sort after and popular Weapn Master is Margarn. He is a renowned master in the long sword and the 2 handed sword. Due to the rigors of his training methods he will only take on one apprentice per month. Any applicants that wish to train under him must pass a stringent test prior to their acceptance as an apprentice. If any of the rules that he sets for his new apprentices are broken, their training will be concluded immediately. Training is considerably difficult and most new apprentices quit long before a month is up. Those who have the skills and determination to survive his rigorous training, will find the skills learnt from him most beneficial. Overall he is considered a tough but fair teacher and those who tutor with him have come to earn his respect.

MARGARN

Master Gareth

Gareth is a master fencer. He is an expert in the use of a Rapier and a scimitar. Gareth will take on any new apprentice as long as they can afford to pay his expensive training fee. He is purely money orientated. In addition he is a very proud man and uses humiliation in his training methods and a large number of his apprentices are bought to tears at least once in their time with him. He does not care who he takes on as an apprentice as long as they can afford to pay him his fee. Once he has finished their training he prefers to have nothing to do with his past students. He is considered a vain and cruel hearted man, but his skill in fencing weapons is considerable. No better fencer can there be found in these parts!

GARETH

Mistress Naidare

Naidare is a master archer. She is highly skilled in both the short and long bows respectively. Naidare is a kind and considerate teacher whoose considerable skills with the bow are well sort after in Grindletown and surrounding lands. She has at least 5 students apprenticed to her at any one time. Naidare is liked by nearly everyone she meets and is considered a pleasure to be apprenticed too.

NAIDARE

Mistress Saccross

Saccross is a cruel hearted woman. She enjoys inflicting pain on all of her apprentices. She is a master in the use of a Quarterstaff. Many of her students are weak bodied wizards and she takes advantage of their poor physical conditions to drive them into the ground. Her training methods are physically and mentally challenging. Many consider her to be a follower of Lovitar and give her a wide berth. However, those wanting to become skilled in the staff must seek her out as her skill in this weapon is quite amazing to behold.
