Welcome to the Temple District traveller. I am Thundra High Priest of Mystra. What you see streched out before you is the splender of the religious factions worshipped by the townspeople and surrounding areas. Some of the gods honoured here with magnificent temples include Mystra, Leira, Helm and Tempus. A number of smaller shrines of Mask, Chauntea and Silvanus are also located here and make up the current total number of religions permitted to practice within the Grindletown area.
Thundra High Hand of the Lady
Grindletown is home to many different and sometimes opposing religious orders. However some religions have not been included within this relatively peaceful section of the town. Church officals from those religions who are not currently apart of our Temple District are reminded that they are to make any proposals to join the current successful candidates, to Mayor Grindle and the the Council of Seven. Their decision whether or not to allow a certain religious order to build a Temple or Shrine here is their decision. No correspondance will be entered into. This decision is final.
There are currently 4 temples located in the temple district. Namely temples to Leira, Helm, Mystra and Tempus. The high priests of these temples are close personal friends of Mayor Grindle who have adventured with him in past years and helped him create Grindletown. Their wisdom and powerful magic have saved this town from the many attacks of their old foes the Zhentarium and from new enemies such as the Iron Throne.
The House of Illusions, Temple complex to Leira is led by High Priestess Alanah Langley. She presides here with the assistance of 5 priests and 7 accolytes. Mayor Grindle is a constant visitor to this temple as he worships the Lady of the Mists. Consequently the Temple to Leira is the most powerful, wealthy and prominant place of worship in all of Grindletown.
The Church of the
Unsleeping Eye, Temple to Helm, is headed by High Priestess
Azreal with the assistance of 4 Priests and 4 accoylytes. High
Priestess Azreal was a member of Grindle's original adventuring
party. They are close personal friends and he confides in her
quite often. This is the case even though they have had many
disagreements in the past.
Azreal often bore the brunt of
Grindle's many practical jokes. On one occasion when Azreal was
on watch, Grindle using Phantasmal force and ventriloquism led
her to believe that the camp was under attack by a Goblin war
party. When it was discovered that she had been duped she spent
the rest of the night trying to locate the invisible Grindle to
beat a little sense into him. Today however they are very close
friends and she often helps Grindle run the town in conjunction with the other members of the Council, especially when
the Mayor is absent.
House of Mysteries, Temple of Mystra Goddess of Magic, is headed by Thundra, High Hand of the Lady and 3 priests and 2 accolytes. Thundra was originally from Shadowdale. He set out on the road to raise funds to build a shrine to Mystra. His successful adventuring career enabled Thundra to build a Temple to Mystra rather then a shrine. With his goal in life fulfilled he now spends his time tutoring the town in the ways of the Mistress of Magic in an effort to convert the majority of the towns people to worship Mystra rather then Leira. It is an up hill battle but he seems to realish the task he has set himself.
Hall of Swords, Temple to Tempus Lord of Battles is commanded by High Priest-Captain Jelderon Khenjak with the help of 2 priests and 2 accolytes. Jelderon is a retired adventurer who spent most of his adventuring life roaming around the Moonsea. Though he has retired, his life has not been boring. If the town is ever threatened you can bet your last silver piece that he will be at the front leading the folk of Grindletown into battle.
Currently there are 3 Shrines located here in the temple district. These include shrines to Mask, Chauntea and Silvanus. A number of priests tend to these shrines and are always willing to provide healing and other such services for a donation to their cause. Some of these Shrines are quite large and may eventually be converted into fully fledged Temples within the year if Mayor Grindle and the Council gives them permission to proceed.
Grindle is aware that there
is a shrine to Mask located openly in the Temple District. It
probably doubles as the local Thieves Guild. To this date though no link to the Thieves Guild can be established. Offically the Priests of Mask train or provide scouts for the Town Watch when required. However, Grindle is aware that there is an underground thieving operation located somewhere in town, but as yet he has been unable to learn of its source let alone shut it down. If he does discover a link from the Guild to the Temple District you can be assured that it will be dealt with swiftly.
The high priest who attends the Shrine to the Lord of Shadows, is always masked and thus his identity is unknown. The number of worshipers who attend the Shrine or live in Grindletown are also unknown. Grindle however is attempting to stamp out any thieving activities other then those sanctioned by the town.
A small Shrine to Chauntea has only just been built in the Temple District. It is only recently that several farmers have moved to Grindletown and started to tend their crops here. A travelling Priest of Chauntea realised the raw potential that this town had to offer and petitioned his church for permission to build a small Shrine to honor Chauntea and to provide guidence for the growing number of farmers starting to assemble here. Permission was granted from the Church of Chauntea and the Council of Seven. Thus a small shrine has been built here. The shrine is tended by High Priest Semminious Scarletton and his congregation.
A small druid grove has been started on the far outskirts of the Temple District. Located among the oak trees can be found a small Shrine to Silvanus the Oak Father. Residing here is one of the 9 ruling Druids named Findarla. He is supported by 3 initiates. Findarla is one of the 4 famous adventurers who saved Shadowdale and surrounding areas from a deadly curse which was slowly killing all of the local vegetation. After he and his adventuring comrades bought back a cure for the curse and defeated the evil madman who introduced the curse to the land, he retired here to live amonst the peaceful land of Grindletown.
