Barracks Welcome traveller. I am Alphatonia, Captain of the Guard and Weapons Master here in Grindletown. My duties here are quite broad. However my main task is to train the local milita and the resident soliders until they are a well trained fighting team, capable of diffusing any local problems when the Protectors are away from the town at any given time. Grindletown is a peaceful spot high above the realms. But we do have our fare share of trouble.
The Protectors are a strange bunch always with their cloaks pulled closed around them. No one really knows who or what they are. They are rumoured to have strange powers. They work for an old man named Isysis. He is a strange man who keeps to himself. He is rumoured to be a close personal friend of the Mayors. No mater how weird he or his bunch are, as long as they continue to protect Grindletown and its inhabitants from our many enemies, then I don't really care who or what they are.
At the barracks there are a number of soldiers and mercenaries who work together with the Protectors to maintain peace within the city. Of note the following mercenaries have become renowned for their fighting prowess. Naidare, Margarn, Gareth and Saccross. This fighting band, who have become known as the Fighting Four, have established a remarkable reputation as an unbeatable quarry. This reputation has served the town well as it has resulted in many undersirable characters moving elsewhere to ply their thieving and murderous trade. They are also masters in their own fighting styles and provide tutoring if and when they have the time.
Here at the Barracks adventurers may study with these and other masters, in many disciplines from the long sword to the battle axe. If we don't have a teacher available in your fighting discipline, we will endeavour to locate someone who can train you in the art that you desire to be taught.
Margarn is a renowned master in the long sword and the 2 handed sword. He will only take on one apprentice per month. They have to undergo a small test prior to his acceptance of any applicants who wish to train under him. If any of the rules that he sets for his new apprentices are broken, their training will be concluded immediately. Training is considerably difficult and most new apprentices quit long before a month is up. Those who have the skills and determination to survive his rigorous training, will find the skills learnt from him most beneficial.
Gareth is a master fencer. He is an expert in the use of a Rapier and a scimitar. Gareth will take on any new apprentice as long as they can afford to pay his expensive training fee. He is a very proud man and uses humiliation in his training methods and a large number of his apprentices are bought to tears at least once in their time with him.
Naidare is a master archer. She is highly skilled in both the short and long bows respectively. Naidare is a kind and considerate teacher whoose considerable skills with the bow are well sort after in Grindletown and surrounding lands. She has at least 5 students apprenticed to her at any one time.
Saccross is a cruel hearted woman. She enjoys inflicting pain on all of her apprentices. She is a master in the use of a Quarterstaff. Many of her students are weak bodied wizards and she takes advantage of their poor physical conditions to drive them into the ground. Her training methods are physically and mentally chalenging.
These 4 warriors are the best of the best in their perspective fields and if you are lucky enough to be trsined by one of them, then your skills will become quite considerable.
The local Armorer/Weaponsmith supplies the Barracks with all of its metal armor requirements including Branded Mail Splint Mail, Breastplates, Half-Plate and Full Plate. (As seen below).
The armor is always of good quality so there is no risk that the armor will not protect the user when engaged in battle. The armor is purchased at a discount but the workmanship is still of the highest standard.
The barracks is also provided with whatever weaponary that it requires. From as common as the longsword to as exotic as the Katana. (As seen below)
The barracks does not sell any of it weaponary or protective equipment. It is only available to those who are employed by the town. Though when the town is threatened, the barracks will outfit any who are willing to defend Grindletown in it time of need. Most of the merceneries that work for the town have their own equipment anyway. However when replacements are required it is good to know that their is a capable weaponsmith and armorer located in town.
This is the Barracks. It is an important aspect of the town. It is here that the Protectors receive their training from the masters so that they can continue to protect its citizens. The barracks is also the training ground for the local watch, the milita and the hired mercenaries.
